WAC- Flying training

Almost anyone can learn to fly an aeroplane, and qualify for a Pilot's Certificate. Learning to fly is easier with the combined efforts of a proficient Flying School and a supportive Flying Club, and both these are combined in our Wynyard clubhouse:

an area of the clubhouse is allocated for flying training;
modern 'light sport' aircraft are available for hire;
we have a resident chief flying instructor;
other instructors and aircraft are also available.

Starting off is easy- just book in for a half-hour trial instruction flight. Fly for approximately 30 minutes with an instructor- during the flight you get hands-on experience flying a state of the art recreational aeroplane.

If your objective is to achieve your Pilot's Certificate, then this can be done in as little as 20 hours. A Pilot's Certificate is often the first step to becoming a Commercial Pilot.

Right Hand Seat Navigation found it’s way to WAC

On Saturday November 8th, with the assistance of Laurie, I conducted a right hand seat navigation course for non pilots. This enabled the participants to get a rest from the working bee that Ern had arranged for that day!
The course was designed to allow right hand seat passengers to learn the basics of map reading and also the basic use of flight computers. This will allow them to assist in the navigational tasks, even when the pilot has temporarily become uncertain of the current position. They also learnt how to conduct ground speed checks: even though most of us use GPS these days, the manual way should still be taught and known.
8 members were invited to attend the course and all found the afternoon very educational with all comments positive towards it. We will be running more in the New Year, and will try to introduce different subjects. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
